PES Redux!
For those worried about being disappointed with another poor iteration of PES can rest assure that you won't be disappointed this time around. It's apparent that Konami really listened and actually made huge, noticeable improvements based on gamers' feedback. The graphics are top notch (Rooney, Messi, Torres, Ibra, and other players are uncanny in their resemblance); gameplay is a bit slower and more realistic but not to the point of being dull and laborious. You still get that classic excitement when you hear a big "thump" and a "swoosh" noise when you strike the ball to make that hard earned goal - something that you can't experience with FIFA for some reason even with it's vast superior graphics and official team/player licenses. I'm not a PES fanboy (too old and busy with life) and admit that FIFA have made some huge strides in terms of game realism, graphics, and online play in the past few years. But whenever I have time to play and host games with friends and family, we keep...

Great update to an already good series
I've been playing the franchise since ISS 64. This is definately the most exciting game yet. The gameplay is fluid and feels more like a simulation style compared to last year. Graphics are great, new soundtrack with actual music and a great master league mode. There are small small nuances that get annoying, but that is the case with all footy games. This game does not dissapoint and the editing option to update the licenses is easily taken care of with a US option file. There are many out there already.Don't go the FIFA route this year. Although it is a good game, which I've played, PES 10 simply delivers the more realistic feel. The demo on the ps3 or 360 network doesn't do the finished product justice by the way.

Better than PES 2009, Worth the wait
For the record, neither EA nor Konami has made any innovative upgrades to their franchises for many years. Back when Konami wasn't releasing a new game every year, there used to be surprising innovations in the PES franchise. FIFA hasn't changed much in terms of gameplay since FIFA98. So both FIFA and PES are far from what they should be.If you have been playing FIFA: there is little justification for you to switch. PES 2010 doesn't offer a much more enjoyable experience. If you have been playing PES: This is the PES that you are used to and love, it's a nice upgrade from PES2009 in almost any aspect of the game.If you have never played a soccer game before: Take PES, it has better player movements, tactical support, good AI (except for the refs and the goalies). It may lack the realistic feel outside the penalty area that FIFA is slightly better at, but it is much more exciting in the penalty area when it comes to passing and shooting for goals...

Great game, but still have some flaws
I just got the game yesterday and only played one game under Professional difficulty with RM vs Milan. I won 4-2. I felt the control is much different from the previous versions, which need some time to get used to. The only complain that I have is the camera angle, which, sometimes, is hard to identify the right direction to pass and shoot, especially under the new passing system. Also, the strategy setting is a little to complicated to me. End of the day, we are just trying to play some soccer, not trying to play the Football Manager game. Other than that, the game looks great to me.PS. I have been a PES and WE fan for over 10 years. No matter how good people say FIFA is, I aint to touch it. PES is for hardcore soccer fans.

Freedom of Play Lifts the Game to New Levels

Pro Evolution Soccer 2011 is here and brings digital soccer to the next level. Central to the heart and soul of PES 2011 is the idea of freedom of play. This freedom invigorates the series with the most advanced set of gameplay improvements ever attempted by the Winning Eleven Production game development team, coupled with the greatest stride in new content. The result is a game that allows total control over every element of play – even online – to give the most lifelike soccer experience next to actually putting on a uniform and taking the field.

Key Game Features

  • Total Control - PES Productions has enhanced the 360-degree passing ratio, offering unprecedented levels of control over every pass, shot, throw-in, through ball and lofted through balls. Users can pass the ball into space, and move their play with total freedom. Players must precisely weight their passes and second-guess the runs of their teammates and exploit their movement. Players even can apply pressure on opponents to force them off the ball.
  • Shot and Stamina Gauge - In addition to the generic power gauge, the Shot and Stamina meter details the player's exact level of fitness. Constantly sprinting will have an adverse affect on performance and statistics.
  • New Defender AI - Defenders now hold their positions naturally, instead of chasing balls that enter their area and work to close down the attacker to force mistakes.
  • Animation and Player Physics - PES Productions has totally reworked every element of in-game animation. These additions will become clear before even kickoff, with the players enjoying fluid, natural movements, with more realistic acceleration and inertia than ever before. The physicality between players is also improved, which was a priority requested in PES forums. Jostling and blocking now looks stunning, while there is a larger variety of convincing tackling styles. Ambient animation also adds immensely to the in-game atmosphere, as players behave realistically when off the ball, and walk and run with a variety of individual styles.
  • Speed of Play - The new level of control means that PES 2011 enjoys a more varied pace of play, which depends on the situation at hand. The game will burst into life as counterattacks come into play, but players can dictate the pace via slow build up or exploiting available space to surge forward. It is harder to make long runs from midfield, and successful play will depend on making quick passes to create space.
  • Aesthetics - PES 2010 showcased the best likeness' in a football game, and PES 2011 ups the ante further. Facial animation has been enhanced, but the key advances are over 1000 all-new animations which have been recreated from the ground up using over 100 hours of motion captured footage yielding more organic runs, turns, throw-ins, tackles, and interaction.
  • Tactical and Strategy - The PES Productions team has implemented an all new 'Drag and Drop' mechanism that can be used in every aspect of team management. These settings are also animated to promote better understanding of the plays that have been altered.
  • Feint settings - PES has always offered a wide range of subtle skills, feints and turns, but PES 2011 allows users to map their favorite move sequences to the right stick, making them more accessible than ever before.
  • Master League Online - PES 2011 marks the online debut for its much-loved Master League element, with players bidding against each other for the world's best players, and attempting to build a squad that can compete with the best against online peers all over the globe.

A step in right direction - New kind of PES altogether
First, let me start by providing my experiences with FIFA 2011. After reading rave reviews on FIFA 2011, I decided to give it a try after skipping FIFA 2010 (also had glaring reviews) and going with PES 2010. You can read my review on FIFA 2011, but bottom line is I ended up selling it mainly due to unrealistic and indistinguishable gameplay despite FIFA touting the "realistic" gameplay.Unrealistic because you can never execute a deadly thru-pass with a top player with just one lowly defender who stood between you and the forwards running/waiting for that thru-pass. A defender would always intercept the pass unless you direct the pass to a completely open area which defeats the purpose. In real life, playmakers like Gerrard, Iniesta, Xavi, etc provide deadly thru-passes toward inside the box past 2-3 top defenders.Indistinguishable because no matter which team you play or who you're controlling, they all have the same characteristics and speed. Messi or Ronaldo...

An overall upgrade and progress
First off, never write or trust reviews based on demos. Demos are never true presentations of the final games, at least for both PES.I started playing soccer games since Fifa95 and Winning Eleven 95. For me, the WE series has got it right in the first place. Folks at EA have never understood the real mechanics of the sport, and have never delivered the "right" game that you can only enjoy as a fan or a player. To me, FIFA has done better in recent years than PES by offering more features and more real-name teams and players. But its core fun factor has never progressed.PES has been fun because of its overall feel: ball physics, movement, team support, strategy settings and pass/shot/cross realism. Every goal is different. Now every save, tackle and cross seems to be different . You have games that really reflect the differences between player stats. I started off in Master League with the PES lineup, and after losing 2 games, I felt convinced because you could...

PES 2010 far outshines Fifa 2010 for the following reasons...
(This review is long-winded, but I guarantee it will serve you.) Can't decide whether to buy Pro Evolution Soccer 2010 or Fifa 2010 on Wii? Comparing the 2010 PES and Fifa versions for Wii leaves little to argument: if you're looking for an authentic soccer experience, PES is far superior. Read other Amazon reviews and you readily discern that Fifa has tried something new by opting for a kiddy, arcade feel. It's as if an ignoramus in Nintendo's or EA Sports' boardroom ordered the programmers to alter a tried and true formula. The result? Like altering a long-standing Thanksgiving tradition, EA has, by analogy, brought a tofu "turkey" to dinner, and long time Fifa fans will be drastically disappointed with EA's miserable product (though young gamers may like the simple play). Aiming to please the casual Wii sports fan, EA revamped Fifa graphics, options, and gameplay--but all for the worse. Some may think the graphics an improvement as character...

BEST. GAME. EVER
I just got this game a few days ago and already love it. There are a tons of different teams from several different soccer leagues that you can choose to play as. Teams from different countries can be played as as well(My favorite team to play as is Sweden). This game is exciting to play, especially for the Wii, because you can point to exactly where you want the pass to be made. The controls are fairly simple, without being too simple. Another great feature of this game is that using nintendo wi fi you can compete against people from around the world (very similar to Xbox Live, except for the Wii it is free). The graphics are surprisingly good for a game on the wii console. Unlike some other sports titles for the Wii, it can be a challenge even for hardcore gamers. I would recommend this game to anyone, especially a soccer fan. This is by far the best soccer game out for any console.

I didn't even like soccer before playing this game
I actually bought this game for my fiancée's brother as a Christmas present and ended up playing it more than he did over our vacation... The controls are so cool, and playing helped me learn the rules of soccer and I started watching real soccer matches on TV now. When I got back from vacation, I ordered another one for myself!Still trying to figure out if there's anyway to play 2 player co-op mode, but even if there isn't, it doesn't change my rating.Great game :)

Amazing, addictive soccer simulation
PROS-A true soccer simulation with great gameplay (much better than FIFA).-Great 3D graphics (as good as FIFA although that is a matter of taste).-You can play Champions League, World Cup, European Cup, Copa America etc.CONS-Not all teams and players are licenced, so some names and logos are not thetrue ones, but you can edit them or find edited option files online to fix that.-No commentary, except when a goal is scored, but I do not mind this.(In fact, I typically turn commentary off in soccer games because it annoys me.Besides, hearing only the ball and the crowd gives the impression that you arein a stadium seat rather than on your couch). In conclusion, I find PES to be one of the best soccer simulations and definitelythe best on PSP so far. Its gameplay is very enjoyable, addictive and realistic.FIFA may have commentary, officially licensed team and player data, but whenit comes to the...

a must-have for PS2 owners
While FIFA has been the better series for the next-gen systems, PES is still the king on PS2. The disparity between FIFA and PES on the PS2 is even greater than the gap that FIFA currently enjoys on the next-gen consoles. PES is STILL lacking in the licenses department but that is expected with the current stranglehold EA has on exclusivity on ALL of football (soccer AND american football). The tight/fluid gameplay cannot even be replicated by FIFA on current-gen systems...if only Konami can replicate their efforts on the PS3 and 360.

-> If you’ve been doing your research, you probably know about the new Dribbling-system, Player-Impact system and the new Tactical-Defending system. I’m assuming you’ve already played FIFA 11, because you should have, if you’re looking to buy/play 12. Likewise, the kamikaze-defenders button now just sends a random defender to CLOSE-DOWN the attacker, but not tackle him. The game is much harder than it was before, and you’ll probably take a couple of games to get the hang of it, but love it you will, even if you’re not much of a defender. Tactical Defending is the answer to all the flak EA had to take for the now-infamous kamikaze defenders that you could blast at opposing attackers, stopping them in their tracks (also known variously as ‘homing-missiles’ and ‘tomahawks’, and I’m... 11 12 are nothing like the FIFA games we’ve seen before – better graphics, better animations, fluidity, gameplay… I consider these two as a pair of my favorite jeans now. My personal experience with it. Its not always noticeable in-game, because this game is so intense you don’t pay much attention to such details really. It actually goes hand in hand with the new Tactical Defending system, so I’ll talk about both together. I remember times when I was absolutely disgusted with my inability to deal with runs the other team was making – remember those times when you could SEE those obvious runs, but could do nothing about it. Well at last you can. I play football (soccer) in real life and personally, I like my video games to be real, not random button mashers with miserable flexibility. Another random bug I noticed was that in Be-A-Pro mode, every time you assisted in a goal and celebrated right after, the goal-scorer would run circles around you for like 5-6 seconds, resulting in an extremely dizzying and head-ache inducing... This made the game so easy while defending, judging by how easy it was to win back the ball. Meh, I can’t believe FIFA actually went one-up on PES in terms of realism.
